CTR Lever
Local SEO Fundamentals

Click-through rate is the SEO lever almost nobody touches.

Same rank, double the clicks. It's possible.

Google uses CTR as a feedback signal: are customers actually clicking your result?

If your listing is ranked #3 but gets more clicks than the #1, Google figures out you're a better match for the query and slowly raises you. CTR doesn't just measure ranking. It influences it.

Five things you control on the SERP.

  • 01
    Title tag
First 60 characters. Service + city + a hook. “Same-Day Tree Removal in Sanford, NC.”
  • 02
    Meta description
150 characters. Reason to click. Include phone number if space allows.
  • 03
    Star rating
Visible from review schema. Listings with stars get 30-40% higher CTR than those without.
  • 04
Photos in GBP and Map Pack
If your map pack pin has 100 photos and theirs has 4, you win the eye.
  • 05
    Review count next to stars
60 reviews next to 4.8 stars beats no number every time.

Higher CTR feeds higher rank. Higher rank feeds higher CTR.

It's a loop. Once you start winning clicks at #3, you move to #2. At #2 you win more clicks, and you move to #1. Most owners never touch the levers. They wonder why they're stuck at #4 forever.

The takeaway

Make your listing juicy. Win the click. The rank follows.

It's the single most under-used SEO tactic in home services.
